Jerusalem — The Mideast Jewel
The Holy Places of Jerusalem

Jewish sites

  1. The Western Wall (“Wailing Wall”) — only surviving part of Solomon’s Temple and is Judaism most sacred site.
  2. King David’s tomb on Mount Zion in West Jerusalem
  3. The tombs of the Prophets on the Mount of Olives, a hill just east of the Old City.

Christian sites

  1. Jesus’ Last Supper room on Mount Zion.
  2. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City which houses the tomb where Jesus was laid after his crucifixion.
  3. Many sites such as the Garden of Gethsemane, Golgotha, the house of Caiphas, Via (way) Dolorosa – path Jesus carried His Cross.

Moslem sites

  1. The Dome of the Rock is the place where Muslims believe Muhammad ascended to heaven from a stone now enclosed in this building.
  2. Al Aqsa Mosque is the house of prayer for Muslims.

The sites mentioned are the most important sites for these religions. Of course there are many other sites in the city of Jerusalem that are sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims.
